Oils

The ocean, for one who visits occasionally can be overwhelming - it's thunder and motion and it's changing moods would take a lifetime to fully comprehend. As this series progressed I began using the oil medium as the early Flemish masters had five centuries before. Firstly the tones of the composition were established using a grisaille method on a white gesso panel. Then thinly painted glazes of pure hand ground colors were carefully applied, giving the painting a brilliance that would otherwise be unattainable.

This series began with a commissioned lithograph. As interest grew I began working 'behind the scenes' with several important dance groups in Canada, and as Mimi Gely so aptly stated when she curated an exhibition of my work "It is alive! It sings! And it conveys all the spontaneous joy and exuberance of music and dance." This heartfelt response is what makes my artistic journey worthwhile.

People, Paintings and other important things |
Home, family, a garden and pets, these are the enduring things in life. In my art I try to describe these things on the small stage that I have set for myself, a square of canvas, a sheet of paper, a block of limestone. Each convey my feelings in a distinct manner. |
